Privacy Policy

1. What Vault for Actual does

Vault for Actual is a personal finance app that connects to your self-hosted Actual Budget server. It reads your financial data — transactions, accounts, budgets — directly from your server and displays it in a clean mobile interface.

Vault for Actual acts as a client for your own data. It does not operate any central servers that store your financial information.

2. Data we do NOT collect

Vault for Actual does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

• Your financial transactions, account balances, or budget data
• Your bank account numbers or financial institution credentials
• Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
• Your device location or usage analytics
• Crash reports or diagnostic data sent to our servers
• Any data whatsoever on our own servers

3. Your server, your data

When you use Vault for Actual, you connect it to a server that you operate — either on your home network, a personal VPN like Tailscale, or a server you control. All data flows directly between your iPhone and your server.

The developer of Vault for Actual has no access to your server, your data, or your network. Your financial information never passes through any third-party infrastructure operated by this app.

4. AI features

Vault for Actual includes an optional AI financial coach feature. If you choose to use this feature:

• You provide your own API key from OpenRouter.ai
• Your spending summaries are sent to OpenRouter to generate responses
• This data is subject to OpenRouter's own privacy policy
• The AI feature is entirely optional — the app works fully without it
• No API keys or AI responses are stored by Vault for Actual

5. Local storage on your device

Vault for Actual stores the following information locally on your iPhone using Apple's standard UserDefaults system:

• Your server URL (so you don't have to re-enter it)
• Your selected AI model preference
• App settings and preferences

This data never leaves your device and is only used to configure the app. You can clear it at any time from the Settings screen inside the app.

6. Third-party services

Vault for Actual does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking frameworks.

Your Actual Budget server may use SimpleFin Bridge to sync bank transactions. That relationship is between you and SimpleFin — Vault for Actual has no involvement in or knowledge of that connection.

7. Children's privacy

Vault for Actual is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children. The app requires users to operate their own server infrastructure, which is intended for adult users.

8. Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes in a material way, we will update the date at the top of this page. Since Vault for Actual collects no data, significant changes to this policy are unlikely.
